NOTICE TO ALL CLIENTS | AVISO A TODOS LOS CLIENTES

Car accidents are scary for everyone involved. Even if you are not driving, you are still susceptible to the trauma and physical injuries that often accompany accidents. If you are injured in a car accident while you are a passenger, you can avoid some of the insurance processes that drivers have to go through. But what about your injuries? What do you need to do after the accident?

If you are injured in a car accident while riding as a passenger, there are a few things you can do to be sure that your costs are covered, and you are on the best road to recovery.

Get Information From the Accident Scene

Even though you aren’t the driver, you should get as much information as you can from the accident scene. Gather insurance and contact information for all drivers involved. If there are other witnesses, get their contact information as well. If police are called, and an accident report is completed, make sure you get a copy of the report. Also, get the name and badge number of the officer(s) at the scene.

File an Insurance Claim

If you are an injured passenger, you will file an insurance claim against the at-fault driver. If that is the driver of the vehicle you were in, then you will file a claim with their insurance. If another driver was at fault, then you will file a claim with that insurance.

Suppose you have personal injury protection (PIP) coverage on your own insurance. In that case, you may be able to file a claim with your insurance company to help cover your medical expenses.

Talk to an Attorney

If you are injured in a car accident, it is helpful to talk to an attorney before beginning the insurance claim process. Often, the insurance company will minimize your injuries in an effort to pay you less.

There is also the possibility that you have grounds to file a personal injury lawsuit against the at-fault person. This can help compensate you for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and more.
